About
I'm Nguyen Cong Hoang (Nguyễn Công Hoàng), a software engineer from Vietnam and an electronics enthusiast.
Most of what I publish is small software aimed at one specific annoyance. JOKey types Vietnamese on a Mac without dropping characters. Lightspot replaces Spotlight without indexing every file on the disk. Sift blocks ads for a whole network from one 10 MB binary, and Taskbar Stats puts network and CPU numbers on the Windows taskbar.
I like software that opens instantly, stays out of the way and works without an account. These days I mostly write Swift, Rust, Go and TypeScript, with some C++ and shell.
I'll be upfront about how I work now: I code with AI. It handles a lot of the typing and the boilerplate, which leaves me more time for the design, the testing and the small details that make a tool pleasant to use. It's also the reason I finish things. Ideas that used to sit in a notes file for months now turn into working projects, and most of what I've shipped recently wouldn't exist without it.
Away from the keyboard I like test gear and hardware I can open up: a vector network analyzer, a pocket oscilloscope, a 3D printer, small microcontroller boards. I keep copies of some firmware and manuals for them in the mirrors section.
